Getting/generating a new domain can be really annoying trying to think of something memorable that has not been taken already. These 2 websites use different approaches to helping you find one.
BustAName (still in beta)lets you add words that you might want to have and finds combinations of 2 or 3 (it is very customisable..
You can choose what 1st level domain, 2/3 word combos, prefixes & suffixes to addand more. After you have chosen these you add some words which you want to use in combination. So for example, lets try for a vietnamese school, usinmg keywords educate, learn, teach and viet. Also choose only a .org domain..
It have come up with 9 perfectly acceptable domains and their availability. It then even give you a comparison of the different domain registers with the prices that they charge for registration.
This takes a lot of the headache out of the task of finding a good domain, as well as a lot of the general donkey work of thinking of combinations, and looking up all the 1st level domain extensions to see it they are available or not.
The other offering, Wordoid.com starts with the statement
The biggest issue associated to starting up a business is getting the right name, which at times appears to be a much more difficult task. Wordoid, a web startup, helps you with finding catchy name for your service/site by auto-creating new words.
So this site is looking more at catchy play-ons of words and combinations with lanuage rather than bunching them together. Lets try as if marketing some kind of medicine, using the word ‘heal’. In the options you set the language, where you want the word in the domain, how ‘natural’ you want it sound and how long you want it to be.
Then it generates words for you to choose. You have to regenerate a few times to find some nice looking randomly generated names. This group was about 3 pages on..
It tells you the .coms and .net that are registered or not next to the word in a second.
Personally, I prefer BustAName method, but the ‘Wordoid‘ style might suit more marketing and product type websites. Try them both, see what you get. I found BoxKit.Org to play with from BustAName, lets see if I manage to use it or not…
